Additional information for the "Singles Collection" CD2

Post by Administrator » Thu Oct 19, 2017 9:52 am

Here is some additional information for some of the songs on the "Singles Collection" CD2.

Can't get out
Music: Sven Dohrow
Lyrics: Tim Dowdall
Recorded at Sven's SDM Tonstudio in 2001.
Remixed at SDM Tonstudio in May 2008.
The music was written in 2001 during a holiday/work vacation at Bornholm/Denmark.
Ronnys vocals for this song were also recorded in 2001.

War on War
Music: Sven Dohrow
Lyrics: Tim Dowdall
Recorded at SDM Tonstudio between 1986 and 1988.
Additional recordings and mixed at SDM in May 2008.
As you can see, the work on that song was stretched over two years. The song initially was not planned to appear on a Twins album.
When we took some of our old tapes from the mid eighties and converted some other songs to digital for the 'Singles Collection' CD, we also "discoverd" the tapes of this song and said, let's try to restore and remix this one as well. The version on the 24-track tape actually had no tracks with Ronnys voice, so Ronny performed some additional tracks for this song in May 2008.

Breaking my heart
Music: Sven Dohrow
Lyrics: Tim Dowdall
Recorded at Sven's SDM Tonstudio in 1999.
Additional recordings and mixed and mixed at SDM studio in May 2008.
This song was also not planned to appear on a Twins album and was something Sven produced for another purpose.
Ronny supplied some new vocal tracks for this song in May 2008.

Playing with fire
Music: Ronny Schreinzer
Lyrics: Tim Dowdall
Recorded at Ronnys Studio in 1986.
Additional recordings and mixed at Ronnys Studio in May/June 2008.
This song was originally recorded as demo material for a follow-up to the Twins album "Until the end of time", but was not used because Hansa and CBS didn't liked it.
In the beginnig of 2008 this and other songs were discovered on an old two track tape from 1986 which actually was in a usable condition. After listening to the song a couple of times Ronny had to criticise that it was just a mediocre sounding demo mix (with too much reverb) and it would make sense to make a new and final mix of this song. When all 24 tracks of this song were transferred to the computer, only the vocal tracks of Ronny, Gundula and Anna were kept and all the other instruments were re-recorded with slightly different sounds.

I don't know what to do
Music: Ronny Schreinzer
Lyrics: Tim Dowdall
Additional recordings and mixed at Ronnys Studio in 1986.
Remixed at Ronnys Studio in May/June 2008.
Same story like above, but this time Ronny kept all the vocals and synthesizers from the original 24-track tape and only replaced the drums and some of the effects sounds.

Going through the motions
Music: Ronny Schreinzer
Lyrics: Tim Dowdall
Recorded at Ronnys Studio in 1986.
Additional recordings and mixed at Ronnys Studio in May/June 2008.
Actually this song was already released on vinyl as a B-side on the "Time will tell" single in a short version and on the maxi as a long version, but the short version was never released on CD. The short version was also found on the old tape from 1986 but in a slightly different demo version. The mix on this tape again had too much reverb and so it was a good oportunity to make a remixed version. The remix contains most of the original tracks from the 24-track tape but some of the drum sounds were replaced.

Forever and ever
Music: Ronny Schreinzer
Lyrics: Tim Dowdall
Recorded at Ronnys Studio in 1986.
Same story like above (see "Playing with fire"). The mix of this song was actually the best one on the old 2-track tape, so there was no need for a new mix. During the mastering of this song for the "Singles Collection" CD the lower frequencies were raised to make the song fit to the other remixes on the CD. Additionally it wouldn't have been possible to make a remix of that song because the original 24-track version of this song was erased (and therefore lost) back in '86 to make place for a "Time will tell" remix :<o

One Day (1st Version)
Music: Ronny Schreinzer
Lyrics: Tim Dowdall
Recorded at Ronnys Studio in 1986.
Remixed at Ronnys Studio in May/June 2008.
This song was recorded in two versions in 1986. This first demo version and the second version which was later released on the CBS album "Hold on to your dreams". The first demo version was also discovered on the old tape from 1986. After listening to the song a couple of times Ronny had found that this version had some nice elements like the saxophone and the guitar parts which were not used on the later second version. So once again, time for a remix.
A man must do what a man must do.
